I love my job!

As you might know, I'm working some as a babysitter here in Barcelona for Swedish and Danish children. So this afternoon I went to Dina, 4 years old. We first played, swam and had a lot of fun in their swimming pool. We then ate Swedish (home made!) meatballs and watched Disney's Aristocats. I mean, how great isn't my job! Can you think of a better one? :)

Adorable Dina in her cool Hello Kitty towel/robe

On my way over there, I saw this ad from an airline (I think it was Spanair) in the metro. They are showing all their destinations on a fictive map, and every city has gotten a little picture. Paris has the Eiffel tower, Copenhagen the little mermaid. And what did they give Stockholm? A snowman. SNOWMAN! Like there is nothing else to see in Stockholm but snow?! It's not even like we have snow all year around (ok, this year was extreme, but normally from December/January to March).. Well well, it wasn't as chocking as the time when I was asked if we had polar bears on the streets..!

And here a pic of Charlie's new collar I wrote about last time:

Cursa Bombers

As I wrote in the previous post, yesterday was Cursa Bombers, or the "firefighters run". 18.000 people had signed up for running 10km on the streets of Barcelona, starting outside Parc de la Ciutadella and the Estació de Franca. They then went along the harbour, running up on Parallel, Gran Vía, Vía Laietana and ending outside the train station again.
From the beginning the run was only for firefighters (hence the name) but now everyone can sign up. Still there are firefighters running, and each year some run with all the firefighter-clothes, boots, helmets and oxygen-tanks! See the pictures.

I was there, not to run (you know me...) but to look after Gabriel while his parents ran. Together with Dina (the 4 year old girl I also babysit sometimes) and her father, the four of us saw the start and then went for coffee. Gabriels father finished first of the three, and the mothers came about an hour after the start; good lap guys!
You can't really see how crowded it was..
Firefighters!
Firefighters. Gabriel half asleep
Dina checking the baby

"Cus tonight is gonna be a good night!"
And Dina pepping "Eva, Eva Eva" (her mother's name)

The last volcano-update:
Kasper took the train from Montpellier to Perpignan, but from there all the train were canceled into Spain. So now he is on his way to Barcelona in a taxi, together with 7 other Spainards, hopefully ariving in 20min or so. Now I am going to meet him :)

Homewife?

The Swedish translation for housewife is hemmafru. Translated back to English, it means homewife. On one hand I sometimes feel like one here in Barcelona; being home most of the day, walking the dog, being with babies and children, washing clothes etc. But on the other hand, how can you be a homewife without being at home nor a wife..?

Im enjoying my life here, but something is missing. And that something I think, is a gruop to belong to. Like; Hi I'm Kasper and I'm an economist, or I'm a police, I'm working with children, I'm having my own business etcetc.. What can I say; Hi I'm Viktoria and I'm doing nothing? It's like when you are doing a servey and you are going to check the box "Occupation", what do I check? Right now I'm just putting student. Well yeah, I'm doing some babysitting and helping Kasper with his company, but that is just too long and diffuse. I'm really looking forward starting school after the summer, and at least being able to say "Hi, I'm Viktoria and I'm a student" and mean it.

This is what it can look like when you havn't
done the dishes in 6 days...

I don't really see the fun in being a housewife. Right now I would much rather present my self as a nanny. At least children make me happy. Like yesterday when Gabriel and I where playing in his babygym:

Hehe I know, I look like a giant next to him

Soon in Marrakesh!

Tonight, Kasper and I are going to Marrakesh! We will stay til sunday evening and hopefully come home with a lot of pictures, experiences and maybe a nice tan ;)

We are going to stay at a riad, which is like a guesthouse, in the old town (Medina). Yesterday I tried to learn a few marrocan arabic words, here are some:

Hi - Ssalamu 'lekum
Bye - bessalama
Thanks - shukran
Please - afak
How much is it? - bsh-hal?
With peace, my friend - ma'asalama, sahbee

I also found a youtube-clip with pronunciation:

This morning I went to look after little Gabriel while his mom went for a run. Gabriel and I danced to David Gray and Daniel Lemma and then we tried to see if he could crawl. He couldn't.., but you could see that he really wanted to!
Here is Gabriel, probably the cutest baby on the planet: (after me when I was one ;)

Now I'm going to have some lunch and then probably take my baby (Charlie) for a walk! He is going to stay at home with our friend Simone, when we go to Marrakesh. (thanks for the comment btw! :) So I'm also going to make a Swedish ÄppelPaj (apple pie)!

I'll keep you updated on Marrakesh!!

Love
-------------------------------------------------------------
